Ordnung, Ordnung...

First stop Berlin.

First impression of Berlin, "the grass in isn't very green".

This is still very much two cities. Been spending a lot of time in the East where Becca used to live. It really isn't Western Europe here. Very grey, still a bit run down. But they seem very proud of their past. Well, the last few years anyway. There is some much reference to the division and to the Communist heritage. WWII doesn't feature at all.

Brandenburg Gate

Monumental Prussian architecture with eagles atop the most imposing buildings. A lot of this has been rebuilt though, or so it would appear. Apparently, a third of the city was flattened between 1943 and 45.

German's are very keen on order. Rubbish has to disposed of in the correct bin. There's a way to enter a shop and way to exit it [all very Lamentations]. EU law would seem to make a lot more sense here, what with strange rules and all that. Spiritually, I don't like it very much. But then I may just be missing home.

But, I did go to a very friendly Baptist church on Sunday morning. In the East but very rich. Sit down for songs ['Jesus, den Licht' aka 'Shine, Jesus, Shine' - yup, they've got it over here too] and stand up for prayers. Long time of people filing up to the mic to make requests for prayer and give testomonies. Very powerful.

Today was meant to be my museum day [really wanted to see Nebucudnezzar's Ishtar Gate] but museums are shut on a Monday. Quite miffed.

Hopefully to Bamberg on Wednesday.

Note to Jo. It's cold here. Bring warm stuff!!

Hello Miguel,
just thought i should remind you to take the time to visit the terminal at Salzburg Airport (and why IS it called airport and not flughafen??) to visit my favourite airport dweller. She's usually asleep on the seating to the left of the check-in desks. God bless mate.
