Living it up in Slovakia
Slovakia is a very beautiful country.
We got a train from Bratislava to a little mountain town called Levoca. 3 star hotel very nice and within budget, although it did mak us feel like decagent Westerners with too much money. Levoca really beautiful - a medieval walled town with the original walls still intact.

Hardly stopped snowng all the time we were there. Went to find Spas Castle - Slovakia's biggest castle. Very impresive even in the whiteout. Had to treck up a mountain (well, hill) in 6 to 8 inches of snow for about half an hour to get there. Got quite cold and wanted to make snowmen.

Was really good to get of the usual tourist route and see a bit of the country where really life happens. Small towns are quite run-down and there's not a lot of wealth about. Evidence of the last 50 years is everywhere. And the buses are fun - small, rickety and with curtains (were we going to be stuck in them all night?!), but very hardy and able to get through weather that would completely halt Britain.
I can't describe how beautiful the train journey back to Brtislava was. The High Tatra mountains looming over the railway with the sun on their south faces. And vast evergreen forests covered in snow.

I second that, don't forget to take lots of photos!
It sounds amazing, see you soon.
does it feel like Narnia?
Actually, the wardrobes in our rooms were very Narnia.
Jo stepped inside one and then claimed to have had all kinds of crazy adventures with fawns, lions, all sorts. Initially, I didn't believe her, but then one day when we were playing hide-and-seek....
It LOOKS very Narnia - I'm loving these photots :o)
Putting them with the posts means much more commentary than you'd get on an album site, too. Well done!
