Polka dots and letter heads
The joys of no dial-up! I am borrowing my dad's computer because I am at my parent's and he has broadband. He also has a large pile of papers, envelopes and books between the keyboard and the screen, so I feel a bit removed from what I'm writing. But it makes checking your emails a lot quicker. I just got one from the medical school showing us the new ties they are having printed. I think it's important to support your institution by buying their ties. However, with these designs I am not so sure.
The Bristol tie I haven't yet bought is disgusting, as I have said, but at least it has that I-would-never-buy-this-tie-cos-I-like-it-it-must-mean-I-went-to-a-pretentious-university quality about it. The major problem we lament about HYMS is that it is still very new and therefore doesn't have a crest yet. So with no crest the tie design uses the... well, the letterhead. Which is fine.
They've produced an alternative now in silk. Which is a kind of retro. It's bright blue with polka dots. And whilst I'm sure it's a lot less like wearing office stationary, I think I've seen the design before on a teapot in the Home Wear section of Woolies.
But enough of this snobbery.
We were thinking of producing our own personalised neck wear, actually. Take one University of York tie (£25) and one University of Hull tie (also £25), cut each in half and sew the opposite halves together. Classy, but I don't fancy taking a pair of scissors to £50 worth of printed silk.

genius!
The Bristol one looks like my junior school tie. Affiliated?
Come to think of it, it looks a little bit like my middle school tie, too. That'll save me some money.
Love the link, Ian!
