WARNING: this post may contain... you know

Here are some interesting things I have learnt this week. Use them today and impress your friends!

- 150 years ago, the world was believed to have been created at 9am on Saturday 22nd October 4004 BC.
- The scientific name for gorilla is Gorilla gorilla gorilla.
- Gorillas have tiny testicles indicating a largely monogamous ancestry.
- Chimpanzees have enormous testicles indicating their ancestors 'got about a bit'.
- Neanderthals were incredibly strong, but their favoured method of hunting (walking up to large reindeer and jabbing at them with spears) resulted in most of them acquiring severe skull fractures before the age of 30.
- Ancestrally, human canine teeth exist purely for display. They are there to impress the ladies. So remember: brush, floss and sharpen.
- Some anthropologists believe walking on two legs may also have originated as a form of display behaviour. So, when on a date, remember: don't walk on all fours. It's soo last species, darling!

So, human evolution would seem to be the topic for the next week or so.

Apparently, and I quote, "Homo sapiens is one of the most poorly defined species of hominin." The general classification, that if you can have a conversation with it, it's probably human, doesn't always follow, and especially not in the case of fossils, which remain stubbornly unresponsive to chit-chat.

I still have lots more reading.
